Revolution to start the year.

Digital turbo for freight transport.

Digitisation in freight transport is picking up speed right at the beginning of the year. On 19 January, Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport, sent a train with a new type of digital automatic coupler (DAC) on a test run across Europe.

After coupling tests and line runs in Germany, the DAC is to be made ready for series production on steeper gradients, in tighter curves and under other climatic conditions.

With the DAC, freight wagons can be coupled without any laborious manual work. In addition to a lot of muscle power, this saves a lot of time with 3,600 goods trains a day throughout Europe. Thanks to automatic power and data supply as well as electronic brake control, the trains can also travel with more wagons, more weight and more speed.

The speed at the transhipment stations and on the routes ensures even more capacity on the rails. The best prerequisites for further relieving road traffic and meeting the European climate targets.
