Of change, innovations and visions: DB Cargo presents "Global Vision 2045" film.

Climate change and global warming are existential threats that actively affect the life and future of all living things - and thus arguably the greatest challenge of the 21st century. The inevitable goal is therefore to radically reduce global CO2 emissions.

The transport sector plays an important role in this. It, too, must make an effective and rapid transition to climate neutrality. After all, with around 20 percent of CO2 emissions, the transport sector is the third-largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany, after the energy sector and industry. Heavy trucks account for around a quarter of emissions in the transport sector.

This is precisely where DB Cargo comes in. The fact is that trains are one of the most environmentally friendly ways of getting goods from A to B - after all, each freight train currently saves around 80 to 100 percent CO2 compared to road transport and can replace up to 52 trucks on top of that. This relieves the environment and the CO2 balance as well as the overcrowded roads.

7 million tons of CO2 saved per year

That's why we at DB Cargo are setting the course for a sustainable future - we already run 3,600 trains a day, taking up to 90,000 trucks off the roads. As a result, we are currently saving seven million tons of CO2 per year. And that is just the beginning. After all, the DB Group has very clear goals in mind: it wants to become climate-neutral by 2040 and be able to show a balanced CO2 account.

That's what makes DB Cargo green

This is also what the film "Global Vision 2045" is all about, presenting us in more detail as a rail freight company, but also our sustainable leadership role. In the video, several interview partners from DB Cargo have their say. We provide various insights and explain how we are achieving our decarbonization goals, what challenges need to be overcome and where exactly we are tackling. This is reinforced by our CEO Dr. Sigrid Nikutta. But it's best to just see for yourself:
